Dual N-Back Challenge

Research-Grade Working Memory Training

About This Task

Dual N-Back is one of the few scientifically-validated exercises proven to increase fluid intelligence (Gf). Unlike simple games, this requires tracking two independent sequences simultaneously โ€“ visual positions AND audio letters.

Your brain must maintain, update, and compare information in working memory while filtering distractions. This intense cognitive load activates the prefrontal cortex and strengthens executive function networks.

๐Ÿ”ฌ Scientific Evidence

IQ Enhancement Studies show 4+ weeks of training increases fluid intelligence scores
Working Memory Capacity Expands ability to hold and manipulate multiple information streams
Executive Control Strengthens attention switching and cognitive flexibility
Transfer Effects Improvements generalize to problem-solving and reasoning tasks

How It Works (2-Back Mode)

  1. Visual Track: A square lights up in one of 9 positions
  2. Audio Track: You hear a letter (C, H, K, L, Q, R, S, T)
  3. Your Task: Press "Position Match" if current position = 2 steps back
  4. Press "Audio Match" if current letter = 2 steps back
  5. Both Can Match: Press both buttons when needed!
  6. Neither: Wait for next trial without pressing
โš ๏ธ Challenge Level: This task is cognitively demanding. Don't be discouraged by low initial performance โ€“ that's normal! Your brain is literally creating new neural pathways. Consistency matters more than perfection.
